My birthday is on Friday. Just two more days!! I'll be 27.

Going out to dinner with my hubs to a wine bar we love! He's already given me most of my birthday gifts too :)
He got me some Brooks running shoes (Pure Cadence 2, blue) and a big ol turvis cup I've been wanting because I needed a bigger water cup!
This thing holds 24 ounces! 3 cups! I've already had 3 today and it's not even noon. Holla! Doing its job. (and also making me pee every 20 minutes. whatevs)
And he got me a pack of colored turvis straws to go with it. It's pretty, has travel scenes on it.
There's something else he's got up his sleeve too. I have my suspicions, but I'm keeping them to myself. I'll have to wait until Friday!
Anyway on Sunday we had a 5 mile run on my half marathon training schedule. We did so good!!
It's crazy how this happened--because we waited until after dark to start because I DID NOT want to get off the couch. I was literally dreading it. Debated putting it off until later in the week. Then once we started I was so happy we were out there. Like, so happy. It was kind of "easy."
Last Sunday we did 4.18 miles in 1 hr 9 minutes
This Sunday we did 5.08 in 1 hr 15 minutes.
See what we did there?!?? ikr?
We added on another mile and it only took us 6 minutes longer.
I was pumped, for real. Ha, that face ^ probably tells you that though. Kind of can't wait until next week's run now. (BTW we take walk breaks…) It's just a 2.5 mile run on Sunday but I'm excited to do it in my new brooks!!
I put up my Christmas tree last night. This weekend is PACKED with birthday celebrations, and next week we'll be gone for all of Thanksgiving, so I wanted to go ahead and get it put up! (My 10k is next Saturday in my hometown, we'll be gone Thursday-Saturday) I got BJ this ornament :)
My man loves sushi. Me? I love these veggie straw things that taste like they're bad for you:
But there wasn't a veggie straw ornament at hoblob. Go figure.
A serving is 38 straws. THIRTY EIGHT. For 130 calories. It's been my favorite snack this week. A huge bag is $4.98 at my walmart.
Lastly, here's my new rug! Got it 50% off at hobby lobby. I can't pass up an owl wearing mittens and a t-bog. :)

At 20 ish years old I was in college at UCA (University of Central Arkansas in Conway) and I thought I was becoming a grown up. Now I know not only was I wrong, I was also an idiot. So here are a few things I wish I had known:
That guy you meet right before your 21st birthday is not meant to be your husband. Don't decide to love him, he's a skeeze. The least you can do is DON'T SAY YES when he pops the question. There's a great guy waiting for you just a few years away. Yes I said years*, no it's not that far away. (*see number three)
If for some reason you can't obey number one, please don't go back to him after you already dumped him. He's kind of a tool, and really show his ass during this part of your life. Try and keep it together after this blows up in your face. You are not alone, you are not worthless, you are not unlovable. Just because one guy tried to crush you doesn't mean you should let him.
Try and not be so impatient. It's for the best.
It is okay to love art history, and major in it. Just be aware that the economy won't really have any art history related jobs for you when you get done with school. It's cool. You can still love it.
Those girls that are in the sorority you quit, well Samantha, they suck. Don't let them make you feel self conscious, don't let them make you feel like a quitter. Sororities aren't for everyone, especially normal people like you.
Quit eating fast food.
No seriously, reread number 6. You need to quit that shit so that your 25-26 year old self doesn't have to lose 30 lbs just to feel normal again.
You will be better off right now if you realize that "adults" are no better at doing life than you are. Their decisions don't have some grand thought process behind them and their age doesn't make them any more qualified at judging your decisions. (except there are some you should listen to, and still some you shouldn't. Take everything with a grain of salt)
Sometimes family members suck. I said it! Get ready to get let down and disappointed. Your parents will disappoint you. You will be lied to. They will be rude to your momma and ruin your sister's outlook on life. They will say and do ALL THE WRONG THINGS, and you probably won't get an apology. The ones that are aching to leave, let them leave. It's okay to have a broken heart, you did all you could to make them stay.
You should try some red wine. Really, you might like it…instead of waiting like 5 years and deciding you like it while in Rome. Doing what the Romans do.
Denim skirts are totally not cute. I know they're a fad, but seriously. Just don't.

The best decision you can make right now is to adopt Jeffery.* So when you bring him home and your dad asks you "What have you done?" just laugh and tell him you've made one of the best decisions of your life. (If you're new here, Jeffery is my dog. Not a human)
Quit that job at Merle Norman. ASAP. If your paycheck coming back out of your checking account ----because the boss's account didn't have money for payroll in it---- didn't tell you enough already, that is not a place where you want to work. Even for that awesome discount.
It's okay that you lost your "bff" Emily when you quit alpha sig. She wasn't really the best thing for you anyway. I promise. Amy either. But you should've known that then anyway--she was easier to figure out. Emily, that was tougher. Just don't worry. You'll meet a couple of girls at a job the guy in number one ^ found in the newspaper, and you'll be friends with them for years and years to come. So try to not feel so lost.
Uhmmmmm maybe try and get away from all that blonde mess of hair. Eventually your hair gets too blonde and you have this come to Jesus moment when you need low lights. Just, take care of that now. It'll save you time and money later.
How are you getting by with drinking basically no water? You should probably drink less Starbucks, and more water. At least one glass a day Sam! Come on. No idea how your body functioned.
Enjoy being young, in school and unmarried. Having a job and a husband is amazing, but that will come very soon!! Right now your parents still help you with bills and clothes and groceries….and car repairs...and you have your whole life ahead of you still!! You'll end up missing these college days some day.
That's all the advice for my 20 ish year old self I could think of. I'm turning 27 next week, and I really can't believe how much my life has changed since I finished college in Conway in 2009. It's been wonderful and fulfilling. There was a time there right before I graduated when I was going through a bad depression, with no self esteem combined with a shit ton of embarrassment. I was so ready to leave that town. So I moved to Memphis, alone, for grad school. When I was away from everyone, I finally started feeling like myself again. Odd. And after that was finally happening, I met my now-husband. I got my master's degree. Started my career. And learned a lot about myself through my husband and my marriage. I'm happy. It's been a long time coming, but I am finally there. Enjoying life!

I, for the life of me, did not want to get out of bed this morning because my husband is out of school today. It is so hard to leave that warm snuggly place to get up and come sit at my desk! Y'all know what I'm talking about I'm sure.
At least I don't hate my job anymore, so it wasn't really that bad coming in today.
First things first, trying a new hot drink this year!
So I have been a starby's groupie all week because I have discovered soy chai lattes. They're ridiculously good. Maybe gross in the summer but right now with this cooler weather I can't get enough of them. And that's a lot of cash dropping. So. I bought some chai tea bags and used my almond milk from home to try and copy it. It wasn't exactly the same…….but it was still yummy. The second time I made it 2x as strong as the directions and I liked that better. This lipton kind I got has black pepper listed in the ingredients. It's tasty! And has less caffeine than espresso/coffee. If you care about that sort of thing.
Saturday was crazy busy. We went and picked up our tshirts for a 5k we didn't run, because I was still feeling too snotty. Ha. Then we went and had lunch with my sister-in-law for her birthday. And then that night we went to Cantina Laredo to have dinner with some people from BJ's class. I got a coffee on the way home at like 10 pm…smart move. Subsequently, I then stayed up until like 2 am watching the Vampire Diaries.
I just started the series….I hope it gets better!! It has started out basically using the beginning of Twilight. But hey, I love me some vampire fiction, so I'm going to keep watching. I'm still on season one.
On Sunday I had a 4 mile run I needed to do for my half training schedule. I found a neighborhood behind my gym that is new, with sidewalks, and hardly any traffic. Oh and there's a pond. It's basically perfect minus the maniac labrador that couldn't shut its trap.
Yes that is my husband I'm chasing.
I have never ran more than 3.1 miles. Ever! It felt good when it was done. I think I could've kept going awhile!! And I didn't want to die at any point during it, so I call that a win!! Of course took walk breaks, but that's a given :)
I was really good with food yesterday and got all my water in. After we had lunch, we went and got some froyo and some red box movies. Here's my froyo:
Low fat white chocolate mousse kind with a little pumpkin kind on the side to try. (it ended up being amazing and I wish I had just gotten pumpkin. next time I guess!) I got pecans, 2 mini reeses cups, granola and sprinkles. It wasn't pretty, but it was healthier than any other froyo I have put together. Normally there's chocolate syrup and reeses and any other type of candy I might be interested in that day.
My husband put cookie crisp cereal and butterfingers on his. Nice.
That's the weekend for ya! I feel really good that I was able to do 4 miles. Makes me want to try harder at this running/eating better thing. I plan on lifting weights tonight and following my training schedule this week. It's supposed to get down into the 40's (as the high temp) so I'll probably be on the treadmill during the week. Next Sunday's run is 5 miles. Holla! Kind of pumped about it….. as of this moment.
My BFF finds out the gender of her baby this week, I'm betting on a girl I think…which probably means its a boy. Also my birthday is next Friday…aka Catching Fire's release day. This time of year is my FAVORITE!!!
Also there's a 10k looming in my future right now (November 30). Not sure whether I'm going to do it or not. Depends on how this five mile thing goes next week I guess. Hope y'all are doing okay :) Thanks for reading.
This weekend was hella fun! My BFF's Amy and Kelly came over to my house (with their husbands) and we hung out. It's the first time I've had people over to our house (other than family). We had wine and Mexican food and the boys watched football.
Kelly and her husband had tire trouble on their way to my town, and we ended up loading up in Amy's car to go and help. Mingers and Griffins to the rescue!!!
My superman husband changed the tire, and accidentally lifted the car, therefore saving the day (night?).
I'm positive he doesn't know his own strength! I'm the safest girl in Arkansas y'all, don't mess with me. My husband can lift cars.
I should've taken some pictures. All I took a picture of was where Amy and Kelly wrote on my "I love you because…" board because it was blank.
Kelly saw how it was blank and said, "Well it doesn't look like much is going on around here." hahaha
So Amy wrote "you can lift cars" and Kelly wrote "& bake yummy cupcakes and tacos" (I'm guessing that part was to me…since BJ didn't make either of those goodies…)
Today is a cloudy chilly Monday and I'm a little under the weather! I was supposed to get 3 miles in yesterday, my first mileage run of my 13.1 training, but I was feeling reeeeeaaalllly shitty yesterday and didn't run.
Then I realized I have a 5k this Saturday and a 10k on November 30. EFF. Better get my puny ass in gear.
Wearing a cozy gray piko top today, and some heels I got at Target which I LOVE. I have them in black too.

Fall is such a busy month!! My momma's birthday is tomorrow (Tuesday), BJ has a pharmacotherapy exam Wednesday, Thursday night there's an event at the non-profit I work at (with an open bar, right when I'm cutting back on the liquor! Which, side note, I've cut back to only drinking on the weekends and it's worked out fine so far!) Friday BJ has a bowling thing with his school we may (or may not?) go to, and Saturday morning we have a 5k, and Saturday night I think we might be going out to eat with some of BJ's classmates. So basically...we're busy. I'll try and up my posts from the one-a-week that has been happening the past few weeks. My bad! I think I'm just now adjusting to my new job, new schedule, and new commuting routine. SOMEONE please help me GET MY ASS IN GEAR with my running situation. I literally got scared when I realized 6.2 miles was happening at the end of this month. That's longer than I've ever ran. Ever. :| Guess I better hit the treadmill tonight, with my snotty nose, and a box of Kleenexes. Later y'all.
