My little vanity DIY

Sooo you have seen the tv stand I redid

(In case you haven't ^^)

So now I made a little vanity area on a blank wall in our bedroom.

I had this old mirror I decided to revamp

Taped it up, and used an ivory gloss spray paint--krylon brand.

Here's the jewelry holder you see on the left (25.00 right now at hoblob--regular $50)

I freaking love it!!

And here's some of the stuff I got for the vanity:

And here's it all put together

The bench is from a local store in Stuttgart--my parents got it for me when I was 14 or 15.

The shelf was made with a scrap piece of
MDF and a scrap piece of trim we had left over from another project.

It's painted with the same spray paint as the mirror. The trim is attached with wood glue.

I have DIY fever y'all. The house is looking so good! It's like a girl lives there now or something.

Lastly, here's Jeff in my wedding veil.

Weekend recap on a Tuesday

(Before I get started, I'd like to say I weighed 161 this morning. So I have a feeling the 163 was a lie.)

On Sunday I got to hang out with two of my best friends I met back in 2008 when I started working at an art gallery in north little rock.

We went and ate at a place in little rock called root cafe. They use all local ingredients. The food was yum--

I got an iced coffee with soy milk, an egg white/veggie omelet that came with a salad.

Then we went thrifting. I found a tea towel and some handkerchiefs.

The white one has a pretty G embroidered on it. It's so hard to find pretty g's on stuff.

I ran Saturday, Sunday, and Monday--finishing out week 4 of my 10k training.

I did all of the running on day three. There was so much switching between walking and running this week--that shit wears me out.

Then on Monday BJ painted most of our bedroom (I helped a little) and I painted our tv stand. It was a light colored fake wood...and not very cute. I should've taken a before picture.

I love the handles!! We painted our room a charcoal gray color. It was beige, and so was the carpet, and I can't believe we waited this long to do it. It's going to look so amazing when it's done.

BJ is on fall break this week so he's going to finish painting and do a few other things around the house. I made him a list of ideas. :)

This week I want to finish week 5 of my 10k training and keep logging all my food like I have been lately. Tonight I'm meeting two high school friends in my hometown for some Mexican food!

Here are 2 photos of us from fall 2009.
Probably the last time we were together (other than my wedding festivities in 2011)

And short haired Samantha circa 2009 (Natalie's bachelorette party)

The hard truth.

I weighed 163 this morning.

I know, wtf, right?

I knew after the cleanse I stopped caring for a bit--like the last thing that needs to happen.

Whatever. I didn't want to type those numbers into my MyFitnessPal but I did. I've also been logging and measuring the past couple days.

Hoping to lose 15 lbs by thanksgiving. Aka be under 150, which has not happened since this journey began.

Onto happier stuff--
I'm off work today with my husband!!! He's on fall break from school and I'm just off today because the museum is closed.

Here's my breakfast (I logged)
Ezekiel bread with 1 tbs natural pb divided between the two. And cold coffee with a cup of almond milk.

287 calories.

Today I've gotta do some housework and run week 4 day 3--and hopefully be able to do all of the running.

Last time I had to walk 2 minutes of the running, because my heart rate was so high! It was in the high 180s when it switched over to the last 5 minute run I walked the first 2 minutes of that. I'm hoping I can do all of it this time. I'll have to work harder at keeping my heart rate normal!

We're painting our bedroom today too! I picked out paint yesterday and hopefully we get to that today. Busy day!! Going to try and keep running on top of the priority list.

Laters y'all.

Back to life!

I've been at a gorgeous State Park for 3 days for training! One lovely thing about my job :)

But I got back last night after hellacious traffic, and I'd like to say thanks to my husband for putting up with my hangry bitch attitude when I finally got home.

I cannot wait for the weekend. I work a half day tomorrow and then I have Sunday off to spend with two of my bff's. thrifting.

Also, my husband decided to join Facebook:

Taco Casserole

Made this Sunday night for din din.

1 lb lean ground beef (80/20 or higher)
1 can refried beans (16 oz)
1 jar salsa --your choice (16 oz)
1 package low sodium taco seasoning
Diced green bell pepper
Diced tomato
Sliced black olives

Shredded lettuce
Chopped green onions
More cheese

What I used^^

Chopped toppings

Cook the beef and drain any grease. Add in taco seasoning, beans and salsa. Pour mixture into a 2 quart casserole dish and top with bell peppers, tomatoes, olives and then cheese. Bake for 25-30 minutes at 350* until cheese is melted and bubbly. (Meat is cooked so you're just wanted to heat the toppings)

You're done!

I mixed mine with some shredded lettuce and ate it like a taco salad. You oculus also bake it with crumbled tortilla chips as the bottom layer.

1/6 of this recipe is around 300-350 calories depending on the type of ingredients you buy.

How I spent my day off

I had this Monday off work. Today (Tuesday) I leave for some training and will be gone until Thursday night.

So Monday I got a pedicure

(I chose bright red)

...and then later went for my annual physical. (Reminder--last year I weighed 185 and had high triglycerides) I weigh 160 ish this year and hopefully don't have high anything :) I'll let you know dearies.

My dr (female) also had to do my lady exam, since my gyno retired a few months ago. I haven't found a new one yet so it was a have to sort of thing. Otherwise in would've skipped it. I HATE Pap smears. Hate.

I feel really prepared for the physical exam part of it because BJ is being tested on giving a physical today ....and guess who has been his test subject!!!

I have to leave for my training at like 630-645 in the morning.

I've got a yummy taco casserole recipe to share with y'all this week. Look for it!!

It's BJs Birthday!!

He's a whopping 28 years old today. And I made him some scratch brownies last night.

I used this recipe I found off Pinterest:

So there's chocolate chunks in 'em...

...There's also some blue bell (homemade vanilla flavor) in the freezer to go with these. Lord Jesus we've got a shit storm of sugar.

I have three things to tell you.

If you can't find this

For the iced coffee recipe I gave you, use this:

It's like $1.75 at Walmart for the small bottle. It's dark roast, so it works in a similar way.

I logged all of my food Thursday and finished week 3 of my 10k training.

I didn't wanna do it. Blah. But it's done.

I tried this monster drink today (I normally hate this kind of stuff) but it was actually pretty good. 0 sugar and 0 calories--and a caffeine jump that I so desperately needed yesterday afternoon at my desk. ZZzzzZzZZZZzzzzZZzz

I'll leave you with some handsome photos of my husband. ;) love you boo! Happy birthday!!!!

I love him.

First cheat meal situation

So yesterday was my first day off of the cleanse. Me and the hubs went out to eat, and although I wasn't craving anything "unhealthy" I went with my usual black bean burger and fries. (We went to Buffalo Wild Wings)

Bad choice.

The beer I had with it was a poor choice too. That food made my stomach feel weird. I just felt like crap.

(Waitress brought us salsa and chips ...either because she gave me a Newcastle instead of a Shiner, or because she was being extremely slow--I didn't eat much of it.)

I had been thinking that when I had normal carbs again or fried food it would just be like it used to...and I was wrong. I went to sleep last night feeling like crap. Learned my lesson!

I hope I still have "learned my lesson" when I make BJ these brownies he requested for his birthday tomorrow.

That will be the real test I guess. :)

Advocare Day 10 wrap up, results, & advice

Dun dun dun DUN! Day 10 of the Advocare 10 day herbal cleanse was yesterday y’all.  Time to wrap this up!

If you just popped in to see how many ell-bees I lost, feel free to scroll down and skip my rambling.

If you actually wanna hear DAY 10's deets, keep reading... :)

Day 10
Yesterday started out with spark, restore pills and fiber drink. Once I got to work I ate a little oatmeal with PB2 and walnuts mixed in. I had drank 40 ounces of water by the time lunch came! And forgot to eat my morning snack.  Womp womp.

Here’s lunch:

Leftover Asian chicken (Advocare recipe) and steamed green beans from the other night, shredded carrots to mix in, and some olives and tomatoes.

Later in the day I remembered my snack, and had a green apple, some natural peanut butter and a spark.

Then I created this for dinner:

It's shredded rotisserie chicken, green beans, black beans, brown rice and Cajun seasonings! BJ really liked it! I planned on eating it after I got back from the gym (Bj stayed home and studied)..then got home and wasn't really hungry. So I tried this:

...gross. Too thick, sickenly sweet. Never. Again.

Back to the results.

Had to make that bottom photo b&w to see the number good, my scale isn't lighting up very dark anymore!

Day one-162.6
Day ten-158.4

I guess I lost a total of 4.2 pounds! I’m pretty excited about that. For me, these last 10-15 lbs have been hell to lose, so losing that amount in only 10 days is a good accomplishment I think! I'm back down in the 150's, so that's nice.

Measurement Results:
(BJ took these)

Day 1 vs. Day 10 (total -/+)
arm 11.7511.75 (=)
bust 42.540.5 (-2)
waist 37.535.5 (-2)
hips 42.25— 42.0 (-.25)
thigh 25 –23 (-2)

That's a total of 6.25 inches lost!

My Advocare Advice

1.       Find a ten day span on your calendar that does not include any holidays, anniversary, birthdays, girl’s nights out, etc. A ten day span with the least amount of events (a.k.a. temptation) is the best time to do this.
2.       Before the cleanse, make a schedule of when you will eat and what you will eat.
3.       From that schedule, make a grocery list. A thorough one! Fruits, veggies, meats, oils, seasonings. Everything  you will need for every snack or meal.
4.       Go to the store and try to get everything you will need for the next 10 days.
5.       Get a water bottle and keep it with you wherever you go! You will be chugging water. This will make it easier.
6.       Portion out snacks and prepack a few lunches. After a couple of days, you will see what’s working for you and what’s not. Then you can adjust your snacks/lunches.
7.       Decide for yourself what you will allow: any black coffee? condiments? Healthy fats with meals or just with snacks? Spark or great value energy mix?
8.       Every night, pack your snacks, spark and lunch so you can grab it in the morning. The less thinking in a rush, the better.

Lastly, would I recommend this cleanse? Would I do it again? Yes and yes. If you’re looking for something gentle then this is the thing. I plan on doing it again later this year. I feel so great. I’m not bloated and I have tons of energy. My cravings are in check and I have an overall feeling of goodness. That's the only way I can describe it.

Also—I paid for my cleanse kit like a normal person, I am not an Advocare distributor, and I was not paid to blog about my experience. Feel free to email or comment with any questions, I’ll do my best to answer them and of course I’ll be honest!

Day 9 y'all.

Day 9 started out with a spark (ha), fiber drink and then oatmeal with walnuts and cinnamon.

I was off work (Monday) so I made a trip to Walmart like a good Arkansan and found they FINALLY have PB2 back in stock--you know, since I'm on day 9 of 10 of the cleanse ...of course they just now have it again.

It's in a fancy skinny jar now.

Here's a better picture of my produce stand :)

Snack time was a banana and some pb2

Lunch was rotisserie chicken, green apple, carrots and brown rice I mixed with a little salsa.

Also at Walmart I found they have discontinued my favorite store brand fall scent (glade, autumn harvest). Fall hayride was similar though, so I got some of that.

My FAVORITE fall scent is Bath & Body Works Leaves. But the large candles are $20 and I can't bring myself to pay that.

Anyway I got a couple candles and some oil room scent things. The stuff I love tends to sell out at my Walmart and Kroger I have to stock up if I want to be able to have it. (Stuff like Ezekiel bread, pb2, Newman's version of Reese's, Justin's almond butter, glade brand autumn harvest scent (last year), white chocolate macadamia Clif bars...toilet paper...jkjk on the toilet paper)

It was a rainy Monday and me and the pup missed BJ.

Or just I did. The pup pretty much slept, so I don't think he cared I was there or that BJ wasn't ;)

So cleanse day 9 went about like the rest of the cleanse. Normal bathroom trips, clean food, and a general good feeling overall.

I figured I'd be dying for some white carbs or alcohol. And while its been funny to joke about with Bj--it hasn't really been that bad. I smelled his beer and didn't want any. I almost took a bite of his Popeyes biscuit last night but didn't feel like it was worth it. (Instead I had some peanut butter and oatmeal leftover from breakfast...and I was completely okay with that) And I stopped needing a dark chocolate chunk at night after dinner. We're going out to eat the first night I'm off the cleanse, and I can't say I'm craving anything. I'm not dying to have fried food or anything, so picking a place hasn't been a big deal. I'm kind of shocked, I just knew I either wouldn't last the 10 days or I'd be chowing down on McDonalds the morning of day 11.

Figured I'd be all: Sausage biscuit with cheese and a hash town stat! At 7 am the day after the cleanse.

I don't think I've dropped a ton of weight. Maybe 4 pounds? We'll see for sure tomorrow morning. I was disappointed until Bj reminded me that's still a lot of weight for just 10 days. Duh Samantha. Yes it is.

Check back tomorrow (Wednesday!) for a day ten recap, my final weigh in and measurement comparisons.

I'll also be talking about what I will do different next time, and my advice for anyone doing the cleanse for the first time. Holla back!
